Learn how to control Spoken using voice commands for formatting, punctuation, and efficient dictation.
Voice & Formatting Commands
Spoken supports advanced voice commands to help you format your text while dictating. You can say these commands at any point during your speech.

| "Bullet Point" | Starts a new bullet point list item |
| "Dash" or "Hyphen" | Inserts a hyphen (-) |
| "Quote" / "Open Quote" / "Unquote" | Inserts a quote symbol (") |
| "Period" or "Full Stop" | Inserts a period (.) |
| "Comma" | Inserts a comma (,) |
| "Question Mark" | Inserts a question mark (?) |
| "Exclamation Mark" | Inserts an exclamation mark (!) |
| "Colon" | Inserts a colon (:) |
| "Semicolon" | Inserts a semicolon (;) |

Modes of Operation
Automatic (Continuous) Mode
Ideal for long-form dictation. Enable Continuous Mode in the settings.
- Click the microphone once to start listening.
- Speak naturally with pauses.
- Spoken detects your silence and automatically types the text for you.
- The microphone stays active until you manually stop it.
Manual Mode
Best for short commands or precise control. Disable "Continuous Mode".
- Click to start recording (red button).
- Speak your message.
- Click again to stop recording and trigger transcription immediately.
Troubleshooting
Microphone Not Working?
Ensure the correct microphone is selected in the Settings window. Windows default devices can sometimes change unexpectedly.
Transcription accuracy low?
Try switching to the Base or Small model in Settings for better accuracy, especially if you have an accent or background noise.
